Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I get a good grade in this class?
A: Be here, be curious, be helpful. Participate, learn, finish all your work with good quality and keep it all organized!
Q: What's the grading scale?
A: 3.5-4.0 B: 3.0-3.49 C: 2.5-3.99 Below a 2.5 is not passing.
80% of your course grade is based on your assessments (tests, major projects).
Q: What if I was absent?
A: Check with Ms. Macon or a reliable classmate; check your online grades; look at the HW area of the whiteboard in class. You have only 7 calendar days to complete absent work, or it is late and probably not acceptable.
Q: What if my grade needs improvement?
A: There are strict limits on Late Work so don't get behind. If you do fall behind, look through your binder, check online grades, get your materials together and then come talk to me (office hours, lunch or after school). Assessments can be improved upon within 2-3 weeks only, and by showing you have done more work to prepare yourself.
Q: Can I hand work in late?
A: If you were excused absent, you have 7 calendar days to hand in late work. Write "ABSENT" on it. Otherwise the only way to earn a Late Privilege is if the class as a whole does something above and beyond and earns a Late Privilege, such as a great discussion, good HW completion as a group, good test scores as a group, a good report from a sub, etc.
Q: What are we graded on?
A: There are 2 categories for grading:
1) Assessments. Tests, major projects. The first category is 80% of your grade.
2) Daily homework, journals, other handouts, participation, organization. This category is 20% of your grade, and this work prepares you to do well on the assessments.
